Magic Indian summer in the Krkonose Mountains

Summer is coming to an end, but it does not want to give up its domination over the mountain nature yet. The days are still long enough for hikes. Still warm sun rays are slowly turning the Krkonose valleys into autumn shades. Spruce meadows are turning golden, damp sunny spots are decorated with gentian, the emblematic plant of the Krkonose, and the ridges are warmed by a purple blanket of heather. Occasionally a mist falls and only the peaks of the highest mountains show themselfes above the white sea... This is the tale of Indian summer in the Krkonose mountains.

The holidays are over, but for a weekend or on days off, escape into the arms of nature that you won't see anywhere else in the world.

For fairy tales and good beer

How about Mala Upa? The village on the border with Poland will enchant you with its peace, clean nature, picturesque cottages and animals grazing in the lush meadows. Children will enjoy the Fairytale Trail, while dads will appreciate the local Trautenberk beer. You can stay in the Hradečanka mountain chalet, where mothers can taste excellent and vintage wines for a change.

Autumn under the Snezka Mountain

Are you planning to climb Snezka from Pec? Autumn is the perfect time! No long queues for the cable car and no crowds at the top. But you can also go from Portasovy boudy Chalets. The cable car will take you up to them, the children will enjoy the Pecka Playing Landscape and you will enjoy the great Krkonose cuisine at the Portášky Mountain Chalet. You can also stay here and experience autumn romance on the Krkonose ridges.

Through the beech forest to Hrádeček

A light walk through the valuable area associated with the name of Václav Havel is a trip through the Hrádeček Nature Park near Mladé Buky. The cottage of the former Czech president stands below the ruins of Brecstejn Castle, surrounded by a beech forest that will soon turn red. The start of the route is at the Grund Resort, where you should be sure to stop for a delicious meal or coffee in the restaurant with an amazing view.

Spindleruv Mlyn - escape from the fog and everyday life

Already the journey along the Elbe from Vrchlabi will be a wonderful colourful experience for you. In Spindleruv Mlyn there is a chairlift to Plan Hill. From its top station, there are educational playful trails and of course many hiking routes, you just have to choose which peak you want to climb. How about going to the Kotelni jamy pits? The Mlynář's Circuits run through the town, easy routes that will teach you a lot about Spindleruv Mlyn. You can take a ride in the trough of the first bobsleigh track in the Krkonose Mountains. If the weather doesn't work out for a hike, take shelter in the Harmony Bunker, the local Aquapark or check out one of the 1,000 models built from Lego bricks in the Lego Museum.

To chimes and beer Fries

If you want to stretch your legs, try this beautiful, if challenging, route. From Vrchlabí, it will take you to Dolni Dvur to the unique chime on the church of St. Joseph. The long climb through Rennerovy boudy chalets ends at the former Klínovka, where you can rest for a while and reward yourself with a view of the Klínovy Brook valley. Afterwards, a pleasant path lined with blueberries will lead you to Friesovy boudy chalets. A great place, with excellent cuisine and its own Fries beer. We can also highly recommend the accommodation. From Friesovky you can run down to Strazne, from where you can take a bus back to Vrchlabi.

On Jizera Pacifik railway to the land of the lost patriots

The Jizera Pacifik is a local railway line winding along the Jizera River on the route Martinice v Krkonoších - Rokytnice nad Jizerou. It will take you through the western Krkonoše Mountains and allow you to watch the landscape outside your window in peace. Board the train in Martinice and park your car comfortably. The building and the whole station area will take you back to the past, when steam engines ran around and soot dust swirled in the air. The local Railway Museum will tell you why the station is unique and what hasn't changed since the last century.

The train in the direction of Rokytnice departs every two hours (always at odd hours). Get off in Jablonec nad Jizerou and follow the old Krkonose paths to Paseky nad Jizerou - the land of forgotten patriots. More information about the trip route here.

To the Crystal Valley

Did you know that the Krkonose Mountains are part of the Crystal Valley? This 70-kilometre-long straight line weaving between mountain ranges is a unique heritage, a place where unique nature meets passion for glassmaking tradition and craft. In our highest mountains, two places are connected with this tradition - the Harrachov Glassworks and Rautis in Poniklá.

In Harrachov, be sure to go to the Mumlava waterfall and see how the riverbed and the surrounding forests turn autumn colours. On the way, stop by the Sindelka Forestry Exposition and meet the inhabitants of the Krkonose forests.
