Family holidays in the Krkonose Mountains

On the panorama of the rounded Krkonose peaks looms the unmissable pointed crown of Queen Snezka. It is the only one in the country close to the mountains. It stands in both the Czech Republic and Poland. In our country, we revere it with the title ‘the highest’. And it is also the most visited mountain because of these exceptional features.

If you are going to stand on its peak, we will be happy to advise you on the choice of the route. But we also remind you when to go to Snezka and what to look out for. It is in the interest of us, you and the Krkonose nature that we ensure respectful and responsible tourists to Snezka.

I want to enjoy Snezka

On hot summer days you can warm up in our mountains. After a hike or as a rest and relaxation between trips, you will certainly find it useful to refresh yourself at one of the swimming pools. The highest Czech mountains have a lot to offer in this respect too! Whether you are looking for a sandy beach, natural bathing, the cool water of a dam or an outdoor pool.

I want to go to the water for comfort

Every small child knows that the Krkonose weather has been ruled by Krakonos since time immemorial. When it's just watering the mountain landscape and filling the springs with water, combing the meadows and forests with fierce winds or blowing impenetrable fog into the valley, it's time to let the mountains air out and indulge in new adventures.

Krkonose National Park

The Krkonose National Park, founded in 1963, is a protective shield for the fragile nature of the Krkonose Mountains. It guards the story of the unique landscape, which has been written since the ancient mountains and which has also been interfered with by human hand in recent centuries. The combination of natural conditions unique in Europe and human activity has made the Krkonose Mountains an extraordinarily diverse environment. The forests, flowering meadows, wetlands, waterfalls and the Artko-Alpine tundra are the most significant and admired phenomena.

Let us appreciate every step through these precious places. Let us walk through the home of endangered plant and animal species with the humility of an invited visitor. Let us listen to the stories the mountains whisper. Let us understand that their protection is our common task and mission.

About the Krkonose National Park

Recommended for your summer holiday

If you want to get to know the Krkonose Mountains for real, go on a hike along the entire length of their ridges. But beware, this journey is not about devouring portions of kilometres and metres of altitude. It's about the quiet symphony that only a Krkonose morning can conjure up. The moment when the sun's rays cross the horizon, pour into the valley and glisten in the drops of a waterfall. Of the endless golden hours that colour the incense meadows in warm shades. Of distant vistas and deep gullies, of fierce winds and mist and the warm embrace of the mountain huts.

The true Krkonose Mountains offer a refuge to anyone who can appreciate the rugged beauty and tranquillity of nature and perceive it with more than just their eyes.

60 kilometres/5 stages

We do not offer one specific route, but also its variants. We have divided the trek into five stages, but this does not necessarily mean five days in the mountains. Link or combine them as you like. In each part of the mountains we have also selected attractions for you to admire, as well as huts that will provide you with accommodation and allow you to stay on the ridges for the entire trip.

Follow the only high mountain beer trail in Europe!

Enjoy a unique combination of active relaxation amidst the rare Krkonose nature and a luxurious gastronomic experience. Get away from the city, the hustle and bustle of work, the kids and maybe even your partner. Just you, a group of friends, a backpack on your back, mountain paths under your feet and distant views before your eyes. And at the finish, as the icing on the cake, one of the Krkonose beer specials awaits you in a steaming pint.

30 km - 5 microbreweries - 2 nights under the mountain sky

Enjoy a great treat at the mountain huts and a brewery tour accompanied by the brewmaster. Relaxing under the night sky or in the wellness area only adds to the complete experience.

Collect stamps, rewards and experiences. How? Just buy a painted booklet for the stamping game for 100 crowns. It connects the most interesting places for children in the Krkonose Mountains. It invites you to forty-four beautiful hikes throughout the mountains. You will climb the ridges with it, walk through the foothills, ride the cable cars and trains, hide under the roof of the museum or the swimming pool in bad weather. Purchasing it will guide you for your entire holiday or weekend trips. Plus, you'll get a stamp directly into the brochure at each location, and if you have more than three, you and your kids will earn lovely rewards from Krakonos.

I want to enter the Fairytale Krkonose Mountains

The Krkonose cyclobuses are tourist bus lines that help cyclists and hikers with transport in the Krkonose Mountains and Podkrkonosi.

Plan your trips to interesting places in our highest mountains without worrying about the altitude!

Do you like to pedal and hills are no problem for you? Do you want to overcome your own limits? Take the cyclo-bus to the foothills and ride back in the saddle!

I want bus timetables

We invite you to take a ride along the local railway called the Pojizersky Pacifik, whose tracks have been winding like a decorative ribbon through the western Krkonose Mountains for centuries. Set off along the rails towards unusual experiences! We have planned excursions along the line and a game for you to play along the way.

During the summer months, the line comes alive during the four Krkonose Railway Weekends, when steam trains and vintage motor cars run along the line. Take advantage of special rides, plan adventurous excursions through the western Krkonose Mountains, and be guided through a unique cultural landmark - the Martinice railway station in the Krkonose Mountains.

How to move safely and considerately in the mountains

How to move safely and considerately in the mountains

Don't underestimate the risks and the specifics of the mountain climate and be well prepared for both! Take care of yourself and your loved ones, but also the nature you are moving in. The fauna and flora of the Krkonose Mountains have become accustomed to harsh conditions, strong winds and low temperatures. Local species are resistant to the weather, but they cannot resist the reckless behaviour of visitors. The biggest enemy of the Krkonose nature is man, who has forgotten that he is only visiting the mountains.

How to prepare for a mountain hike

Let's not forget that the Krkonose Mountains are the only Czech mountains with alpine character and their peaks are dominated by the inhospitable arctic-alpine tundra. The weather here changes from minute to minute, the clouds pass quickly and on a sunny day it is not uncommon to be clouded by fog and gripped by strong winds.
