Tomb of the Holy Cross and the Harrachov Hospital

Horní Branná

Tomb of the Holy Cross

This architecturally exceptional building in Horni Branna resembles oriental Byzantine temples in its appearance. It consists of two octagonal prisms of different heights, connected to each other. Construction began as early as 1840, but it was not consecrated until 1870, when it became the family tomb of the Harrachs.

In the underground part there is a crypt where the remains of members of this important noble family are interred. Today, the tomb is used not only for funeral ceremonies, but also for musical concerts with a unique atmosphere.

By prior arrangement, it is possible to visit the tomb with an expert guide – visits must be arranged in advance by phone at 734 722 632.

Harrach Hospital

Directly opposite the tomb stands the building of the former hospital, which Count Alois of Harrach had built in 1710. The facility provided care for twelve elderly servants, who were given accommodation, food, clothing, and an annual allowance – at the time, this was a significant social deed.

Today, the building houses an assisted living facility.
