Kovarna Mine

Kovarna Mine

The mine is open from July to the end of September.

Take a Look Inside Snezka!

The highest Czech mountain has attracted gemstone seekers and miners since the Middle Ages. It has only slowly revealed its underground treasures, often at the cost of hard labor, hardship, and human lives. It was indeed the wild Giant’s Mine (Obří důl) of those days that inspired the legends of Krakonos, and inside the mountain, you can see his hidden “treasures.” After mining for iron, arsenic, and copper, surprisingly large spaces remained inside Sněžka.

Kovarna Mine Offers Tours

Kovárna Mine is open to the public from July until the end of September. Tours are available only for pre-booked groups. You can only enter the mine in sturdy footwear and warm clothing. Children under 10 are not allowed on the tour.

Please note that the underground temperature is around 9°C, it is very damp, and the spaces are confined. You’ll descend 75 meters below the surface via ladders with protective cages and suspended platforms. Therefore, the tour is not recommended if you suffer from fear of heights.

Practical information:

The tour must be arranged at least 14 days in advance for a group of up to 12 people at speleoalberice@volny.cz. Group admission is 12,000 CZK (even for groups with fewer people). The tour lasts two to three hours.
