Come and discover the village of Horni Branna, situated between the hills and within reach of the Krkonose. Enjoy the views of the Zaly and Cerna hora mountains, and take a walk through a promenade of one-hundred-year-old locust trees (acacias). Try the educational trail, see the palace and its exhibitions and pause by the small fishpond, all of this in an atmosphere of peace and comfort.

Legacy of the House of Harrach and Jan Amos Komensky

Among the many personalities that made their mark on the village’s history, Jan Amos Komensky is certainly the most important. He spent the last months in Bohemia here before leaving for exile with a group of members of the Czech Brethren’s Union, starting their journey in Bila Tremesna in February 1628. To commemorate this, a memorial to J. A. Komensky was established in the Renaissance palace in Horni Branna in 1957. The palace also houses an ethnographic exhibition entitled Life at the Foot of the Mountains.

There are several important buildings in the village, including the Gothic church of St. Nicolas, a former hospital and the Neo-Romanesque octagonal Tomb of the Holy Cross, built by the House of Harrach in the 19th century. The House of Harrach was closely linked not only to the history of the village but also that of the whole Western Krkonose.
