Cesky raj

Cesky raj, situated some 50 km northeast of Prague, is a romantic area spreading along the middle part of the River Jizera, where the diversity of natural beauty, for example, the Prachovske Sandstone Rock Formations, amalgamates with plenty of historical monuments, such as castles, chateaux and rural architecture. The title, meaning ‘the Bohemian Paradise’, was first used by Sedmihorky spa guests in the 19th century.

Bozkov Caves – Bozkov, near Semily

The Bozkov dolomitic caves are the only caves in northern Bohemia which allow public access. They include the largest underground lake in Bohemia. The caves were declared a National Natural Monument, which is a special conservation status. The labyrinths of passages abound with speleothems and typical quartz benches, banks and ledges protruding from the ceilings and all sides. The stalagnates, stalagmites and stalactites, omnifarious in colour and shape, have been forming over hundreds of thousands of years, to be discovered and admired by visitors. The lake bottoms are often covered in small coins which people toss into them, perhaps out of habit or for good luck.
