Seams of black coal and lodes with copper mineralisation containing chalcocite, bornite, malachite, lazurite and covellite were unearthed near Jivka, some 20 km east of Trutnov, in the 19th century. The extraction lasted from mid-19th century to the 1960s. The entry to the mine – the Bohumir drift, and the area of the former Bohumir mine, was acquired by the Dul Jan Sverma Zacler NGO in 2012. In 2015, the first trail, approx. 400 m long, was opened for visitors. They enter the underground parts via the Bohumir drift, go through the gallery in the Bohumir lower seam, see the former engine room providing transport to the bottom level, the original and well-preserved part of the longwall advancing chamber, and return to the surface through the former short full-rise exploration drift and a vertical blind pit. When underground, visitors can see interesting geological phenomena of the sedimentary deposit, a palaeolological find, renewed original framing and figurines of working miners.
