The water plant for Snezka is incorrectly referred to as a water ram; in fact, it is a Pelton turbine, an interesting technical monument and actually an example of rediscovered alternative sources of energy. It works using a principle of astonishing simplicity: the energy of water which naturally flows from the hill actuates a machine which pumps some of this water back uphill. The water plant and water pipes to Snezka were built in 1912; before then, the water had to be brought up to the mountain summit in backpacks. The equipment was in service until 1957.
