The Gablenz monument, made of cast iron, lies on the top of Sibenik hill on the edge of Trutnov to commemorate one of the battles of the Austrian-Prussian war which occurred here on 27 June 1866. The victorious Austrian army was led by Marshall Ludwig von Gablenz, and a 20-m tall monument was inaugurated only two years after the battle, on 27 June 1868. An inner staircase leads to the top of this cast iron obelisk. After Gablenz’s tragic death in 1874, the monument became his repose. The obelisk top is open to the public from May to September on weekends.
