A picturesque mountain town, long ago a village of miners and glassmakers, is now rightfully called the Gateway to the Krkonoše and is an ideal starting point for the highest Czech mountains. It offers a wide array of groomed cross-country and downhill tracks, cycling tracks and hiking paths. If you like adventure, you can try zorbing, four-wheelers, climbing walls, horse cart rides, sightseeing flights or a horse ride in beautiful natural scenery. An easy hike or a chair lift can be taken to Žalý mountain to enjoy the views from the only stone viewing tower in the Krkonoše. The Baroque Augustinian monastery, housing an exhibition entitled Stone And Life, is worth visiting, together with a Renaissance palace built in 1546, the parish church of St Lawrence and four historical houses dating back to the 17th and 18th century which feature exhibitions of the Krkonoše Museum. The Week of Crafts, held in July, is a popular attraction, just like the Krkonoše Beer Feast in August.
